12.2.5. RS-232C Communication Problem
Table 12-7: Troubleshooting for RS-232C communication problem
Defective wiring of communication cable
Check the wiring referring to “Appendix 7: Wiring of RS-
232C Communication Cable”.
Be sure to short the signals RTS and CTS of the Driver Unit
even the signals RTS and CTS are not in use.
When a message “Communication Error” appears on
the display of the NSK Handy Terminal FHT-31.
(The Handy Terminal displays the message by itself.)
• This message assumes that the break of
the RS-232C communication cable.)
• In the normal state, the RTS signal of the Driver Unit (CTS
of the Handy Terminal side) is ON. This message appears
when the RTS signal is being off for 2 seconds or longer.
Try another NSK Handy Terminal M-FHT31.
When a message “Communication Error” appears on
the display of the NSK Handy Terminal FHT-31.
(The Handy Terminal displays the
message by itself.)
• This message assumes the difference in the board rate.
• This message appears on the display if the data length is
longer than specified or the stop bit is not 2-bit.
Check if the baud rate of the Handy Terminal is 9 600 [bps].
(Refer to the instruction manual of the Handy Terminal.
Use another M-FHT31.
When _ (under bar)appears on the display:
• 4-1) The Handy Terminal was connected while the power
of the Driver Unit is turned on.
• 4-2) Break of signal cable.
• 4-3) Failure of the Driver Unit.
4-1) The RS-232C cable must be connected when the power
of the Driver Unit is off. Be sure to follow the above
procedure to protect the RS-232C device of the controller
device.
4-2) Confirm the conductivity of the RS-232C cable.
4-3) If no failure is found in the cable and the Motor, the
Driver Unit may be defective.
Replace it referring to “Appendix 5: Procedure for
Replacing Driver Unit Model EDD.”
When no character appears on the screen;
• 5-1) Break of signal cable
• 5-2) Defective Driver Unit.
5-1) Confirm the conductivity of the RS-232C cable.
5-2) The Driver Unit may be defective. Replace it referring
to “Appendix 5: Procedure for Replacing Driver Unit Model
EDD.”
