6. Torque wheel hub nut to specification and install a
new cotter pin. Tighten nut slightly if necessary to
align cotter pin holes.
7. Install wheel and (4) wheel nuts. Torque wheel nuts
to specification.
8. Rotate wheel and check for smooth operation. Bend
both ends of cotter pin around end of spindle in
different directions.
REAR DRIVE SHAFT
Drive Shaft Removal
1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Remove the (4) wheel nuts and rear wheel.
3. Remove the cotter pin and loosen the rear wheel hub
castle nut. Remove the nut, and (2) cone washers
from the rear wheel hub assembly.
4. Remove the (2) bolts retaining the upper and lower
radius rods to the bearing carrier. Discard the nuts. Let
the radius rods swing downward.
5. Remove the brake caliper mounting bolts. Remove
the rear brake caliper assembly.
CAUTION: Do not hang the caliper by the brake line.
Use wire to hang caliper to prevent damage to the
brake line.
Wheel Hub Castle Nut:
80 ft-lbs (108 Nm)
Wheel Nuts:
30 ft-lbs (41 Nm) + 90° (1/4 turn)
80 ft-lbs
(108 Nm)
NEW Cotter Pin
Serious injury may result if machine tips or falls.
Be sure machine is secure before beginning this
procedure. Always wear eye protection.
