OSx Station Control2-10 SIMATIC PCS 7 OSx 4.1.2 Operator
Role_Change Command (continued)
The following examples suggest when to use the Role_Change command.
The operator needs to assign a station to be primary. The selected
station becomes the primary; the current primary automatically
changes to the normal role. Typically, the operator uses this command
when the system is functioning normally. All stations are in sync, the
primary is running correctly, and the transfer of the primary role is a
smooth transition from one station to another. Compare this command
to the
New_Primary command on page 2-16.
The operator needs to designate a station to be the backup in the event
that the primary fails. The system supports only one backup role at a
time. An operator station cannot be a backup.
The operator sets a station to out_of_service to do maintenance o r move
the station to another location.
