5.1 Description of the individual modules

If a valid configuration has been released, the DEVICE LED flashes green until the system
switches to safety mode.
5.1.2 3RK3 Basic central unit
Properties
The 3RK3 Basic central unit is the basic component of the MSS for safety-related control
functions. It can be used up to Category 4 in accordance with EN 954-1, SIL 3 in accordance
with IEC 61508, and PL e in accordance with EN ISO 13849-1:2006.
● Up to 7 expansion modules can be connected to the 3RK3 Basic central unit.
● An additional interface module (e.g. DP interface) can be used to upload diagnostics and
process data to a PLC.
● The 3RK3 Basic central unit can be parameterized using MSS ES via the PC cable.
Inputs and outputs
The 3RK3 Basic central unit has the following inputs and outputs:
● 8 safety-related, freely parameterizable sensor inputs
● 1 safety-related, redundant relay output.
If you use this output in conjunction with 2-channel shutdown, a fault short-circuit (e.g. P
or M short-circuit) is required. This can be implemented within a control cabinet or by
installing the connection cables in such a way that they are protected.
