Circular DROs
Number of Holes Species the number of holes in the paern. This must be greater than zero.
Start Angle Species the angle from angle 0. Angle 0 is a base (horizontal) line from the
center point going right (east) to the circumference. The angle from the base line can be either
posive or negave, up to 90 degrees (or -90 degrees) and rotates the paern either clockwise
or counterclockwise. A negave angle produces a clockwise rotaon; a posive angle produces a
counterclockwise rotaon. For example, to create a hex paern with ats on the top and boom,
enter 0 into the Start Angle DRO. To create a hex paern with ats on the le and right sides, enter
30 (or -30) into the Start Angle DRO.
Diameter The size of the circular paern as dened by a line through the center point of each hole.
Center X, Center Y – Denes the center point of the circular paern.
Spot Tool # If this DRO contains a valid tool number when Post To File is clicked, a spot drilling
sequence using this tool number will occur prior to the drilling sequence. The Feedrate, Spindle
RPM, and Z Clear from the drilling sequence will be used for the spot drilling operaon. The depth
of cut for the spot drilling will be taken from the Spot Drill DOC DRO.
Spot Tool DOC If the drilling operaon includes spot drilling, this DRO will be used to determine
the depth of cut for the spot drilling operaon (for more informaon on dening a tool for a spot
drilling operaon, refer to Spot Tool # earlier in this secon).
6.7.4.1 Drill
The Drill tab uses one of the canned G8x cycles to drill a hole at each locaon called out in the Hole
Locaon Table (see Figure 6.25). The drill cycles available are: G81 – Drill, G82 – Drill with Dwell, and
G83 – Drill with Peck (features can not be combined; peck cancels dwell).
Since it is usually more convenient to touch-o a drill on its point, that conguraon is presented in
the graphics. Hole depth is usually dened as the full diameter poron of the hole, so the Z length
from the drill point to the corner may need to be considered.
Dwell An entry greater than 0 replaces G81 with G82 in the G-code, unless there is an entry greater
than 0 in Peck. The G82 roune feeds at the Z Feedrate (a DRO in the le panel) unl reaching the
boom of the hole, then the posion is maintained during the period set by Dwell.
This is usually used to let the tool complete the cung of the hole boom before retracng. A
revoluon calculaon is presented in the graphics to aid in seng an appropriate dwell value (such
as half revoluon for a two ute drill).
Peck An entry greater than 0 replaces G81 with G83 in the G-code. The G83 roune feeds at the
Z Feedrate starng from Z Clear down a Peck distance, then rapid retracts to Z Clear, and rapid
returns to start the next peck. The peck distance is not adjusted so the rst and last peck will likely
be shorter than the Peck seng.
