intherangeof1-1/2timestheamountofbacklashnecessarytobringthe
gearsintospecication.Forexample,ifthebacklashnecessarytobe
changedby0.10mm(0.004inch),theshimpackshouldbechangedby0.15
mm(0.006inch)asastartingpoint.
Highbacklashiscorrectedbymovingtheringgearclosertothepinion.Low
backlashiscorrectedbymovingtheringgearawayfromthepinion.These
correctionsaremadebyswitchingshimsfromonesideofthedifferential
casetotheother.
