Z100-TYPE HARDWARE
Equipment Room Cross-Connect Field
The following guidelines and procedures are provided for installing and removing patch
cords and power adapter cords. Administration details for changing system translations
using the System Access Terminal are included in AT&T System 75 and System 75 XE
Administration (555-200-500).
Installing Patch Cords
The AT&T System 75 and System 85 User's Guide—Terminal Installation and Test (999-700-
214IS) contains installation procedures for the voice terminals and their adjuncts. The voice
terminals and their adjuncts must be installed before the patch cords and power adapter
cords are connected.
Use only the ZD6A-87 patch cord (Figure 2-9) to connect the port (purple field) to the station
appearance at the white or blue field. The ZD6A-87 patch cord has two molded ears near the
tip of the plug release tab. These ears are unique to the patch cord and prevent other cords
from catching between the plug body and release tab during patch cord installation and
removal. Equipment damage may occur if any other type cord is used.
In all cases, the shortest patch cord should be used to make the cross-connection. The patch
cord should be removed and replaced with a shorter cord if it touches the floor or the cable
slack manager. Also, the patch cord must have enough slack so that it will not inhibit the
opening of the jack panel. Allow a minimum of 8 inches (20.3 cm) of vertical space (drape)
between patch cord and bottom of connector module.
To install a patch cord, proceed as follows:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
At the blue or white field, locate the jack number associated with the terminal
location.
Plug one end of the patch cord into this jack.
At the purple field, locate the port jack number identified on the Port Assignment
Record and plug the other end of the patch cord into the port jack.
Arrange both ends of the patch cord so they lay in their respective connector
module vertical troughs and patch cord guides at the bottom of the connector
modules.
If the patch cord is too short, select the next longer patch cord.
Update the Port Assignment Record.
Repeat the procedure until all patch cords are installed.
Update system translations.
Removing Patch Cords
When it is necessary to remove patch cords due to voice terminal removal, the voice terminal
must be first disconnected at the information outlet. The patch cord must then be
completely removed from the cross-connect field. This will provide an accurate visual
indication of available port and station jacks. Do not leave a partially or totally
disconnected patch cord intermingled with other patch cords.
When it is necessary to rearrange patch cords due to voice terminal moves, it is strongly
recommended that the entire patch cord be removed and reinstalled even if only one end of
the cross-connection is affected. This will reduce cord entanglement and help to assure a
continued neat patch cord appearance.
