11.2 Top Blowdown Expansion Options
The table below shows the expansion options which need to be set for Top Blowdown Control.
# Default Range Description
TBD: Top Blowdown Function
To enable top blowdown, the top blowdown expansion feature must be
unlocked. The TDS value in the water, measured by the TDS probe on
terminals 3P+, 3P-, 3T+ and 3T-
, is maintained by a PID loop, see
expansion options 52, 53 and 54. For setting 1, the terminal TB output will
open and close an external solenoid valve. For setting 2, the top
blowdown valve is open and closed via a top blowdown servomotor on
terminals P-
, FW, P+, TBI and TBD. For setting 3, continuous top
blowdown management is enabled for the top blowdown. For setting 4,
the TDS probe is used for water hardness monitoring only.

Water Hardness Monitoring
The TDS units can be displayed in ppm or µS/cm.
This is the set TDS target value which the TDS control will try to maintain
by open and closing the solenoid or top blowdown valve, see expansion
option 40. The target TDS value should be set according to the boiler
manufacturer’s guidelines.

TBD: TDS Temperature Compensation
The steam temperature is calculated from the steam pressure sensor
reading. The TDS value read will be corrected by the % per
O
C set, for the
difference between the steam temperature and 25 degrees
O
TDS measured value displayed is shown corrected to 25 degrees
O
C. This
temperature compensation coefficient will depend on the contaminants in
the water and should be set accurately for the contaminants that make up
The ppm to µS/cm conversion coefficient will depend on the contaminants
in the water and should be set accurately for the contaminants that make
0.20 – 1.00ppm / (µS/cm)
This value will automatically display the adjustment factor when the TDS
probe is recalibrated during running.
