23-15 config dhcp ping_packets
Description
This command is used to specify the number of ping packets the DHCP server sends to an IP
address before assigning this address to a requesting client.
By default, the DHCP server pings a pool address twice before assigning the address to a DHCP
client. If the ping is unanswered, the DHCP server assumes (with a high probability) that the
address is not in use and assigns the address to the requesting client. If the ping is answered, the
server will discard the current IP address and try another IP address.
Format
config dhcp ping_packets <number 0-10>
Parameters
<number 0-10> - Enter the number of ping packets. 0 means there is no ping test. The default
value is 2.
Restrictions
Only Administrators, Operators and Power-Users can issue this command.
Example
To configure ping packets:
DGS-3620-28PC:admin#config dhcp ping_packets 4
Command: config dhcp ping_packets 4
Success.
23-16 config dhcp ping_timeout
Description
This command is used to specify the amount of time the DHCP server must wait before timing out
a ping packet.
By default, the DHCP server waits 100 milliseconds before timing out a ping packet.
Format
config dhcp ping_timeout <millisecond 10-2000>
