Note: See “Setting the Write-Protect Switch” on page 61 to make sure that the
write-protect switch is properly set.
3. Slide the cartridge into the opening in the front of the DAT 160 Tape Drive
until the loading mechanism pulls the cartridge into the drive and the drive
door closes.
To indicate that the load operation was successful, the Ready status LED comes on.
Unloading a Tape Cartridge
To unload a tape cartridge:
1. Make sure that the 7226 Storage Enclosure power is on (the power-on symbol
should be illuminated).
2. Press the eject button.
The DAT 160 Tape Drive rewinds, unloads, and ejects the tape cartridge. The
process may take from 15 seconds to several minutes, depending on the position of
the tape and the amount of data written. The status LEDs do the following
sequence:
v The Ready LED turns off.
v The Activity LED flashes during the unload operation.
v The Activity LED turns off when the cartridge is ejected from the tape drive.
Emergency Eject Feature
Attention: You may lose data or the cartridge may be incorrectly formatted if you
perform an emergency eject of a cartridge. An emergency ejection should only be
performed as a last resort to recover a cartridge (for example, to prevent an
incorrect operation from being processed on a specific data cartridge or to remove
a stuck tape cartridge).
The DAT 160 Tape Drive includes an emergency eject and reset feature that
releases the tape cartridge and resets the drive. If the Eject button is pressed when
a drive is performing an operation, the drive will attempt to finish the task before
ejecting the cartridge. This ensures that a proper End-of-Data (EOD) marker is
written and the task is completed in a controlled manner. EOD marker is placed at
the end of each operation to indicate completion of that task.
Note: In some emergency eject cases where a read or write operation takes longer
than 35 seconds, the operation may be discontinued before a proper EOD
marker can be written.
To perform an emergency eject of the tape cartridge or a reset of the drive, press
and hold the unload button for at least 5 seconds. If a cartridge is in the drive, it
automatically ejects without rewinding the tape.
Note: Emergency ejection overrides any PREVENT REMOVAL that may be in
effect, and can abort any tape drive operations.
Resetting the Tape Drive
You might need to reset your tape drive. Use the following procedure to reset the
drive:
Use this information to reset your tape drive, without affecting server operation.
