Note: Attaching 7226 to an IBM POWER7 processor-based server through the
integrated SAS adapter is not supported.
v USB Adapter and Cable:
– The DAT160 USB Tape Drive and Removable RDX HDD Docking Station
features on 7226 only support the USB cable that is provided as part of the
feature code. Additional USB hubs, add-on USB cables, or USB cable
extenders are not supported
– For each DAT160 USB tape drive and RDX Docking Station feature installed
in the 7226, the appropriate external USB cable will be included for
attachment to an IBM Power server
– The 7226 DAT160 USB tape drive or RDX Docking Station features can be
connected to the external, integrated USB ports on POWER7 Systems or to the
USB ports on 4-Port USB PCI Express Adapter (feature number 2728)
v RDX Removable Disk Drives
– RDX Removable Disk Drives (features numbers 1106 and 1107) require an
RDX Drive Docking Station (feature number 1103).
SYSTEM X SERVERS:
v A 3GB SAS HBA controller (feature number 3583) must be installed for each
SAS tape drive or DVD-RAM feature installed in the 7226. System x does not
support 7226 attachment through the quad SAS cable.
v The half-high LTO5 Fibre Channel (FC) tape drive feature attaches to IBM
System x through an FC host bus adapter on the server. A unique Atape driver
is also required for the AIX operating system when an HHLTO5 FC tape drive is
installed in 7226.
IBM BladeCenter model PS704
v The half-high LTO5 Fibre Channel (FC) tape drive feature attaches to IBM
BladeCenter model PS704 through an FC host bus adapter on the server. A
unique Atape driver is also required for the AIX operating system when an
HHLTO5 FC tape drive is installed in 7226.

The 7226 Model 1U3 Storage Enclosure is a precision instrument designed to meet
your highest data storage expectations. In purchasing this product you expect to be
able to configure and use it reliably. IBM strives to deliver to you a product that
meets this expectation. As with all mechanical devices, this product drive requires
more periodic maintenance and care than the electronics in your computer. And to
ensure a reliable operation of your enclosure, IBM also requires that it be installed
and used properly. The following list outlines several required actions that become
your responsibility in the ownership of this device, and if followed, can not only
increase its availability, but may positively affect your warranty:
v Install the enclosure in a clean environment
v Use only high-quality, data-grade media
v Ensure that the media is properly handled and stored
v Clean the installed storage devices regularly, as recommended
