10.5 Detection of spray/fog/dust
"Spray/fog/dust detection" can mark recognised pixels as spray/fog/dust
(→ „10.1.1 Pixel properties“).
Spray may distort the measurement results. Spray is:
● dust
● humidity / fog
● particle clouds
The distortion of measurement results caused by spray can be reduced by increasing the lateral distance
between the device and the illumination unit.
Test the ideal filter setting under difficult conditions:
● strong sunlight
● wet surfaces
When detecting reflectors, the distance between the device and the illumination must be as short
as possible. Otherwise, the reflectors will not be properly recognised.
In narrow and closed locations, spray/fog/dust can only be recognised with restrictions.
The pixels recognised as spray, fog or dust are invalid (pixel properties set to 0) and cannot be
used for applications.
If more than 30% of the pixels are recognised as spray, fog or dust, the "availability" bit is set to
0 (not available). The status of the bit can be retrieved via the CAN and Ethernet interface. In the
interface descriptions, the CAN and Ethernet interfaces are described in detail.
