7.2 Transmitting process data
EtherCAT transfers parameter data and process data between the master and the slaves, which,
depending on their time-critical behaviour, are divided into corresponding communication
channels.
The process data are transmitted by means of "datagrams" via the process data channel.
The process data controls the I/O channels.
The transmission of the process data is time-critical.
Process data are transmitted cyclically between the host system and the I/O system (permanent
exchange of current input and output data).
The master can directly access the process data. In the PLC for instance, the data are directly
stored in the I/O area.
Process data are not stored in the I/O system.
Process data are e.g. input and output data of the I/O system.
Note!
The process data size of the I/O area is described by XML device description files.
Import the following two files via an EtherCAT configurator for this purpose:
EtherCAT bus coupler module: Lenze_IOSystem1000_EPM_S130.xml
I/O compound module: Lenze_IOSystem1000_EPM_S130_Modules.xml
