16.7.4 Flicker detection – indicator W4
Using the flicker measurement the 10min P
st
average flicker values of every phase are
considered.
The 10min period, on which the short term flicker value Pst is calculated is suitable for
assessing the disturbances caused by individual sorces with a short duty cycle. When the
combined effect of several disturbing loads operating randomly (e.g. welders, motors) has to
taken into account it is necessary to provide a criterion for the long-term assessment of the
flicker severity.
The characteristic of the indicator W4 for the flicker measurement is based on:
• Conformity level K
CP
=95% (configurable), number of 10min values inside the range of
95% over 1 week
• P
St
: average flicker value over 10min
• P
lt
: long term flicker value of the last 6 short term flicker values P
St
(n=6)
• N
4
: number of 10min Interval values, where P
lt
<= 1
The EN50160 Standard “Voltage characteristics of electricity supplied by public distribution
systems” specifies the limits of supply voltage flicker.
It defines, that under normal operating conditions, every week 95% of the time, long-term flicker
severity P
lt
should stay within the limit P
lt
≤ 1.
Remark: the flicker functionality is only available for the CT connected meter (3x230/400V)
