WLAN Radio Firmware Upgrade
There is a radio chip on the WLAN Option Board that contains firmware. This
firmware is loaded into radio
chip at the factory, but there are occasions when you may have to upgrade
this firmware to a newer level.
Firmware Download Methods
Once you have the radio firmware copied onto your local PC or SD card, you can employ one of the various
download methods presented in this
section. Downloading firmware can be accomplished through almost
any host IO
installed on the printer, but may not be valid for all methods.
IMPORTANT To upgrade the Radio firmware, the WLAN interface must be active. This means
that the download file CANNOT be sent to the printer over the Ethernet interface
or via the Manual three-key power-up method.
With exception to the manual two-key power-up sequences, downloading new firmware does not require
the user
to put the printer into any special mode. This makes the download procedure easy.
Table 11. Firmware Download Methods
Firmware File Types (.fls) and (.exe)
Using firmware with an .exe extension FILENAME.exe is convenient.
However, firmware with the .exe
extension may not be available in all
situations. Download methods described in Table 11 which require
the .fls
extension, FILENAME.fls, is required (e.g., Windows Drivers and Web
Page).
The FILENAME.fls file can be extracted from the FILENAME.exe file by
executing the command in a
Windows Command Prompt session:
FILENAME<Enter>
Automatic download (any host IO except Ethernet).
Using the
FILENAME.exe, firmware can be downloaded
from a
Windows Command Prompt without having to
manually put
the printer into download mode.
Manual two-key (any host IO except Ethernet). This
two-key
(LEFT SOFT KEY + RIGHT SOFT KEY) power-up
sequence puts the printer
into download mode. Firmware
can be loaded through any
host IO port except Ethernet.
