Working with the Fire Alarm Control Panel and the Configurator
2.1.1 Inserting the CodeMeter Key
The CodeMeter key is a USB flash drive that controls access to the Fire Alarm Control Panel.
• Insert your CodeMeter key into the computer.
The CodeMeter icon in the Windows system tray (the lower right-hand corner of the
screen) turns blue.

If the CodeMeter key is not connected, the icon is grey.

2.1.2 Connecting the Computer
To connect the computer to the Fire Alarm Control Panel
1. Connect the RS-232 cable or the USB cable to the UIMA cable.
2. Connect the 10-pin head of the UIMA cable to the last CPU in the CPU chain that starts
from the main board.
3. Connect the other end of the RS-232 cable or the USB cable to the computer.
4. Start the Configurator.
The Configurator prompts you for your PIN.
5. Type your four digit PIN.

If you are using an RS-232 cable with a serial port to connect the FACP and the
computer, then follow these steps:
a. In the Configurator, click File > User Preferences.
b. In the Serial Port pulldown menu, select the port that the RS-232 uses to connect to
the computer.
c. Click OK.
6. Click Panel > Connect.
You are now connected to the Fire Alarm Control Panel.
