Term Definition
Attitude and Heading
Reference System (AHRS)
An inertial sensor that provides outputs of heading, pitch and roll.
ANT Acoustic Navigation Tester
CIF Common Interrogation Frequency
CPU Central Processing Unit
CRF Common Reply Frequency
DAS Data Acquisition System
Global Positioning System
(GPS)
A multi-user, 24-hour, worldwide radio navigation system using the
NAVSTAR constellation of satellites. GPS receivers are capable of
tracking and decoding data from the satellites and using it to
compute the position and velocity of a vehicle.
HPR Hydro-acoustic Position Reference
Inertial Navigation System
(INS)
A navigation aid that uses a computer, motion sensors and rotation
sensors to continuously calculate the position, orientation and
velocity of a moving object without the need for external references.
Long Base Line Positioning
System (LBL)
A system where two or more transponders are on the seabed. The
positions of the transponders are established by a calibration
process in a seabed frame. The distances from a transducer to each
transponder are measured using a transceiver. The position of the
transducer can be computed in the seabed frame. The name comes
from the “baselines” joining each transponder.
