SECTION 6 – MAINTENANCE & MONITORING
6. Maintenance
Before any maintenance activity is carried out make sure all warnings and cautions in Section 2
Safety are read, and the Safety Manual is fully read and understood.
Documentation must be consulted whenever the warning
symbol is found on the equipment, in
order to determine the nature of the potential hazard and any actions which should be taken.
6.1 General Maintenance
On retrieval of the WSM6, from operations, it must be switched off at the ON/OFF switch. It must
then be thoroughly soaked in fresh warm water to remove all accumulations of salt, sand and silt.
Once clean, the WSM6 must be thoroughly dried with a lint free cloth and inspected for any
external damage. When completely dry, the connector can be lubricated, refer to Section 6.6 for
details on the lubrication process.
Before
any maintenance activity or storing the WSM6 must be recharged, refer to Section 6.3 for
the WSM6 Battery Charging Procedure.
6.2 Inspection
Before any maintenance activity is carried out on the WSM6 make sure all Warnings, Cautions,
Section 2– Safety and the Safety Manual are read and fully understood.
Inspect the WSM6 for the following:
1.
Inspect the Pressure Relief Vent Valve. If it is proud of the end-cap surface it is possible the
battery has developed a fault, or has been damaged by water ingress causing the production
of gas inside the transponder.
2. Inspect the anodised surface of the housing for signs of corrosion or damage. When in full
working depth, the transponder housing is at risk of failure if corrosion or damage is not
removed or the housing replaced.
3. Inspect the connectors for signs of damage or corrosion.
4. Check the security of the connector by fitting the locking sleeve from the mating half of the
connector, and check for movement. Any movement will require attention and the connector
to be secured.
5. Inspect the jointing faces of the end-caps and the main housings. Signs of corrosion indicate
leakage of water into the transponder.
6.3 WSM6 Battery Charging Procedure
1. Check the temperature is between 10 and 40 degrees Celsius. The battery will not accept
charge outside these limits.
2. Check the transponder ON/OFF switch is set to OFF.
