WSM6 Manual
Document Ref: UM-8270-000
Issue: A Rev 0
Section 6
October 2011 39
CAUTION
When extracting the connector end-cap from the main housing do not twist as this will
prevent the end-cap from being removed.
Make sure the ‘O’ ring seals do not become damaged during the extraction process.
14. Carefully extract the connector end-cap by gently levering to and fro from the main housing.
NOTE
The Opening Tool (Part No. 810-1262) can be used to assist in extracting the connector
end-cap.
15. When the end-cap has been fully extracted it is retained by a ribbon cable connector and
internal nylon retaining cord.
16. Disconnect the ribbon cable from the connector end-cap by releasing the side clips and
gently pulling the cable connector off the socket.
17. The nylon retaining cord is attached to an end-cap locating pillar. Unscrew the pillar to
release the cord and free the end-cap form the main housing.
18. The end-cap at the other end of the WSM6 can now be removed from the housing using the
same process for the connector end-cap.
19. Clean all sealing surfaces and inspect for damage. Damage to the sealing surface will allow
water to ingress inside the housing. Any damaged component must be replaced.
20. Remove the end-cap from the other end of the housing, using the same process for the
connector end-cap.
21. Lay the internal assembly down on a clean surface with the battery pack downwards. Set the
housing to one side.
22. Clean the grease from all sealing surfaces and examine the sealing surfaces on the internal
bore of the housing. If there is any sign of significant damage to these sealing surfaces, then
the housing should be replaced before the unit is re-assembled.
23. If the transponder has been opened to refit a loose end cap connector, proceed to Section
6.5.3 - End-cap connector tightening procedure, and then re-assemble the transponder.
24.
Remove the two M4 bolts that fix the electronics chassis to the transducer end-cap.
25. Remove the 3-pin Molex connector close to the transducer end of the chassis.
26. Carefully separate the electronic chassis and the transducer end-cap. The tuning coil is fitted
to the end of the chassis and fits into a recess in the transducer end-cap. It is recommended
that replacement of the transducer or the coil assembly is carried out at Sonardyne premises
