Encoder
Opens and edits the Encoder settings. Once the Encoder is connected to the JetStream,
the JetStream will automatically read from it, and will not stop reading from it until the
Encoder is physically disconnected.
An Encoder is used for variable-speed conveyors (ie, conveyors that do not move at a
constant speed), so that print timing is not thrown off by the changes in speed. The
Encoder sends pulses to the JetStream based on how far the conveyor has moved (eg,
one full rotation of the Encoder wheel). The number of pulses, rather than an increment
of time, is what triggers a vertical column of dots to be printed. As the conveyor speeds
up, the pulses speed up and columns are printed more quickly. When the conveyor
slows down, the pulses slow down and columns are printed more slowly. In this way, the
print speed constantly matches the conveyor speed even when the conveyor speed is
changing.
NOTE: Whenever using an Encoder, the “Printing Speed” under Basic should be set
to 1000.
Meter Factor
This setting is only used when printing multiple times on a single item, “Meter Factor”
tells the JetStream how many Encoder pulses to wait between prints. This affects the
distance between prints. The range is 060000. The default value is 2000. On a
4000 PPR (pulse per revolution) Encoder, 2000 would equate to half a rotation of the
Encoder wheel between each print on the item. The number of times to print on each
item is set in Photocell under “Prints per Trigger.” If “Prints per Trigger” is set to 1,
the JetStream ignores the “Meter Factor” value.
Encoder Divider
The “Encoder Divider adjusts the width of the text. The encoder divider range is 0-
15. The default is 0. Each number increase in the “Encoder Divider” value doubles
the distance that the conveyor must travel to trigger a column of ink to print, and
thereby impacts the width of the text as follows:
