Master brake cylinder
6.3 Master brake cylinder
Overview
Function description
The master brake cylinder creates a hydraulic pressure in the braking
system which is applied to the hydraulic tightening elements at the wheel
brakes. The hydraulic pressure is proportional to the force applied to the
master brake cylinder. The braking force created at the wheel brakes is
proportional to this pressure and therefore also to the force at the master
brake cylinder.
The master brake cylinder also delivers the fluid volume required for the
braking process in the brake drum on the front axle. Additional volume
must be provided by the master brake cylinder to compensate elastic
deformations, hose elongation, setting of sealing elements, and the
compression of the residual air in the system.
