1.Remove:
Lower ring
nut

Use the ring nut wrench
®.

STEERING HEAD INSPECTION
1.Wash the bearings and
the
bearing races
with
a solvent.
2.1nspect:
Bearings
Pitting/damage
-4
Replace.

Bearing and bearing race replacement
steps:
Remove the bearing races
from
the steer-
ing head pipe using a long rod
CD
and a
hammer, as shown.
Remove the bearing race on the
lower
bracket using a
floor
chisel ® and a ham-
mer,
as
shown.
Install the
new
rubber seal and races.

NOTE: _
Always replace the bearings and bearing
races
as
a set.
Whenever the steering head is disassem-
bled replace the rubber seal.
If
the
bearing race is
not
fitted
squarely,
the
steering head
pipe
could be damaged.
3.1nspect:
Upper bracket
Lower bracket
{with the steering stem}
Cracks/bends/damage
-4
Replace.

1.Tighten:
Ring nuts {lower and upper}
Refer to "STEERING HEAD INSPECTION"
in
CHAPTER
3.
