FINAL DRIVE/RING GEAR POSITIONING
NOTE: _
Ring gear positioning is necessary when
any of the following parts are replaced:
• Final gear case
• Ring gear bearing housing
• 8earing(s)
1.Select:
• Final drive gear shim
CD
• Ring gear shim ®

Selection steps:
• Position the final drive gear and the ring
gear
by using shims CD and ® with their
respective thicknesses calculated from
information marked on the final gear case
and the drive gear end.

® Ring gear shim thickness "8"
® Thrust washer "c"
• To find the final drive gear shim thickness
"A", use the following formula
Final drive geaf"shim thickness:
A=®-<£)
Where:
® =:: a numeral (usually a decimal number)
on the final drive pinion gear is either
added
to or subtracted from "80".
<£) = a numeral on the final drive gear case
O.e.79.50)
Example:
® is 80.01
If the final gear case is marked "50" ....... <£)
is 79.50.
"A" = 80.01 - 79.50
= 0.51
Therefore, final drive gear shim thickness
is
0.51 mm (0.02 in). Shim sizes are sup-
plied in the
following thickness.
