Checking the Phone and Modem Connection
NOTE:
Use Windows HyperTerminal to enter command mode to
check the phone and modem connection.
Check the phone and modem connection by using the
AT$
command
.
After issuing the
AT$
commands, you may see one of the
following responses:

If the connection is good, the modem displays the number of
the cellular phone.
■
If the connection is poor and you have previously registered
the phone with the modem, the modem displays
PHONE DOES NOT RESPOND
or
NO PHONE
■
If you have not previously registered the phone with the
modem, the modem displays
NO PHONE NO PHONE
Checking Signal Strength
NOTE:
Use Windows HyperTerminal to enter command mode and
check the signal strength of the cellular phone connection.
You can use the
AT$SI
command to check the cellular phone
signal.
A cellular phone displays a standard Received Standard Signal
Strength Index (RSSI) of between 80 and 255. If the RSSI falls
below 80, make sure the phone is in an upright position and near a
window. Do not place the phone down on a metal surface.
