MPEG Overview
MPEG (Moving Pictures Experts Group) refers to a type of data
compression optimized for video and audio data. By analyzing the
changes between frames (differencing), an MPEG encoder is able
to reduce the file size of the data by a ratio of up to 200 to 1. This
compression method provides true full-screen and full-motion
video and CD quality audio to be stored in a relatively small sized
file. Once the data has been compressed, however, it must be
decompressed before it can be used.
MPEG decoder software, which decompresses MPEG data at a
very high speed, plays back MPEG streams at a data transfer rate
of 150 kilobytes per second. This gives ordinary PCs the ability to
play back full-motion MPEG sequences from standard CD-ROM
drives.
USB Overview
Your computer comes equipped with a port which connects
Universal Serial Bus (USB) devices to the computer. This port
allows you to connect a device and still have ports open for
connecting other devices.
Your computer can support the following USB devices: a hub, a
keyboard, and/or a mouse. Later versions of the Windows
operating systems will add functionality which will allow you to
attach any USB device to your computer (for example, a video
camera).
A USB keyboard and mouse, optionally connected through a hub,
offer the same functionality as a standard keyboard and mouse
connected through the keyboard/mouse connector. Future
operating systems will have extended USB capabilities which will
replace the USB capabilities built into the computer.
