Inserting a PC Card
1 If you are running Windows NT 4.0 without CardWare 5.0
from Compaq, turn off the computer.
NOTE:
If you are running Windows 95, you do not need to turn
off the computer or initiate Suspend before inserting a PC
Card.
If you are running Windows NT and CardWare 5.0 from
Compaq, insertion of the PC Card while the computer is on is
supported for most PC Cards. Contact your PC Card vendor
directly for information about the level of support they offer
for “hot insertion
”
with CardWare 5.0.
CAUTION:
To prevent damage to the connectors, use minimal
pressure when inserting a PC Card into a PC Card slot.
2 With the label side up, insert the 68-pin connector side of the
PC Card into the slot, pushing gently.
NOTE:
The PC Card slot contains two guide rails. Until you
become familiar with slot positions, look inside the PC Card
slot before inserting the PC Card. When a PC Card is inserted
correctly, you can feel it seat itself.
IMPORTANT:
Before a new PC Card can be used, it may be
necessary to perform an initial setup procedure. Follow the PC
Card manufacturer
’
s instructions for installing the needed
card-specific device drivers.
