Hibernation Overview
Hibernation saves information in memory and turns off the
computer.
When Hibernation is initiated, no information is lost. There is no
limit to the amount of time the computer can remain in
Hibernation, since the computer is turned off and there is no drain
on the battery pack.
When the computer is turned on, the information in memory is
restored to the screen at the point where Hibernation was initiated.
Hibernation can be used to:

Protect information

Hibernation is a condition that protects
against the loss of information from a discharged battery pack
when the computer is left unattended. During Hibernation,
information in memory is saved to the hard disk, and power is
turned off.

Act as a place marker
—
For example, it is useful when you’re
making a presentation away from the office. You can do all
the preparation in advance, mark your place by initiating
Hibernation, and be ready to make your presentation as soon
as you arrive.

Conserve battery power

Conserve battery power by
customizing the Hibernation timeout to save information in
memory after a specified period of inactivity.
CAUTION:
It is possible to remove Compaq Power Management
from the computer using Add/Remove Programs. Compaq
strongly recommends against doing so, however. Removing
Compaq Power Management from the computer will cause all
Power Management functionality, including Hibernation, to be
lost.
