Solving Hard Drive Problems
Accessing information on the hard drive is much slower
than usual
Possible Cause
System entered Hibernation due to low-battery condition and is
now exiting from it.
Solution
Wait for the system to restore the previously saved data to its state
prior to initiating Hibernation.
Hard drive error occurs
Possible Cause
Hard drive has bad sectors or has failed.
Solutions

If you are running Windows 95, access ScanDisk by clicking
Start

Accessories

System Tools
Æ
ScanDisk, then check the Automatically fix errors box. Click
Start to begin scanning.
If you are running Windows NT, go to the system prompt and type
chkdsk.
The computer will automatically scan for errors.
CAUTION:
Reformatting the hard drive erases all of your files
permanently; be sure to make backup diskettes of your information before
reformatting the drive. Compaq also recommends that you order a backup
of the preinstalled software before reformatting your hard drive.

Reformat the hard drive.

provider or Compaq customer support for assistance.
