Monitoring the Main Mix
You can send the Main mix (the signal present on the Main
busses) to the Monitor bus for routing to near-field monitors
or headphones. See “Sending the Main Mix to the Monitor
Bus” on page 115.
Direct Outputs
The following types of channels or busses have Direct Output
capability: Input Channels, FX Returns, Main busses, Group
(or Variable Group) busses, Aux busses, Matrix busses and PQ
busses.
Available destinations for Direct Outputs include:
• Stage Rack outputs
• FOH Rack outputs
• Pro Tools recording option inputs
Each output destination may be fed by only one Direct Out-
put signal (multiple Direct Output signals cannot be routed to
a single output).
To route a channel or bus to a Direct Output:
1 Target the channel or bus you want to route to a Direct Out-
put by pressing its Select switch.
2 In the Directs page of the Patchbay, click the tab for the
channel or bus type you are routing.
3 Click in the channel grid to route the channel or bus (listed
on the left) to an available output (listed across the top).
4 Select the pickoff point for the Direct Output by clicking the
letter to the right of the channel or bus name and choosing
from the pop-up menu.
5 In the ACS section, press the Direct Output rotary encoder
knob so that its “On” indicator LED lights.
6 Turn the Direct Output rotary encoder knob to set the Direct
Output level.
Up to 12 dB of gain can be added to the Direct Output signal.
Direct Output level is displayed in the Selected Channel dis-
play.
Direct Output Pickoff Points
The pickoff points for the Direct Output signal are selected in
the Directs page of the Patchbay. The following pickoff points
that are available for each type of channel or bus:
Input Channels
• Top of channel
• Insert return
• Pre/post fader
FX Returns
• Top of return
• Pre/post fader
Outputs
• Top of bus
• Pre-fader
• Post-fader
Configuring Direct Output Pickoff Points
Input Channels and FX Returns can be globally configured to
have either a pre-fader or post-fader pickoff point for Direct
Outputs. These pickoff points can be pre-mute or post-mute,
depending on the channel or bus type.
On Input Channels and FX Returns, channel mute is
pre-fader. On Output busses, channel mute is post-fader.
To configure the Direct Output pickoff point for Inputs:
1 Go to the Options page and click the Pickoffs tab.
2 Under “Input Strip Fader Pickoff Point,” click Pre-Fader or
Post-Fader.
