OPERATION
The release bearing is operated by the release fork.
Slave cylinder force causes the release lever to move
the release bearing into contact with the diaphragm
spring. As additional force is applied, the bearing
presses the diaphragm spring fingers inward on the
fulcrums. This action moves the pressure plate rear-
ward, relieving clamping force on the clutch disc.
Releasing pedal pressure removes clutch hydraulic
pressure. The release bearing then moves away from
the diaphragm spring which allows the pressure
plate to exert clamping force on the clutch disc.
MASTER CYLINDER
DESCRIPTION
The clutch master cylinder mounts to the cowl
(Fig. 10). The master cylinder consists of a push rod,
a piston and cylinder housing, a remote fluid reser-
voir, and an interconnecting hydraulic tube (Fig. 11).
OPERATION
The clutch master cylinder (Fig. 11) produces the
hydraulic pressure necessary to disengage the clutch.
When the clutch pedal is depressed, the push rod
moves the piston to produce pressure in the cylinder.
This pressure moves fluid through the system to the
slave cylinder, which in turn operates the clutch fork
and clutch release bearing, disengaging the clutch.
When the clutch pedal is released, pressure is
relieved and the return spring returns the piston to
its original position until the next pedal actuation.
REMOVAL
NOTE: Replacement master cylinder assemblies
come pre-filled with fluid. No fluid service or sys-
tem bleeding should be required.
