Function
The basis for the laser sintering of parts is formed by CAD data containing three-
dimensional geometries; these data, appropriately prepared, are processed by the
machine.
Prior to starting the building process, a base layer of plastic powder is applied to the
building platform and the machine warmed up to the building temperature.
Once the warm up phase is complete, the automatic building process starts. During
this process the building platform is lowered by one layer thickness and a new layer
of plastic powder applied. The computer controlled laser beam then exposes the
contours and the areas enclosed by the contours in accordance with the part data
defined.
The final building height is produced by the continuous repetition of layer by layer
application of powder and exposure.
The machine can be filled with plastic powder manually or automatically using a
powder conveyor (Powder conveying system IPCM P or docking station IPCM P plus).
The powder conveyor transports the plastic powder to the machine's two powder
supply bins. The level in the powder supply bins is monitored by sensors.
After the end of building process, the machine is cooled and the exchangeable frame
can be removed for unpacking the parts.
