Non-compliance with the storage conditions
Non-compliance with the storage conditions can result in unsatisfactory part
quality, as well as malfunctions in the building process.
➢ Storage temperature too high:
Possible chemical change in the material possible in case of extended storage
duration
➢ Storage temperature too low:
Formation of lumps in the powder due to the formation of condensed water on
opening cold powder bins in the warm room where the machine is installed
➢ Atmospheric humidity too high:
Formation of lumps in the powder due to the formation of condensation in bins
with air change
➢ Atmospheric humidity too low:
Excessively slow dissipation of the electrostatic charging of the powder.
Problems when handling powder
Electrostatic charging of the powder
➢ Effect
- Lumpy plastic powder (like snowflakes)
- Plastic powder is not transported in front of the recoater
- Plastic powder cannot be homogeneously mixed.
- Flow behaviour of the powder not optimal.
➢ Cause
- Charging when sieving or mixing
- Charging on filling bins and transferring the powder between bins
- Very low atmospheric humidity (especially in winter).
➢ Problem rectification
- Storage of the powder after mixing
- Establish atmospheric humidity as per the stipulated ambient conditions.
- Adjust fluidisation and vibration.
You will find the nominal values for the fluidisation and vibration in the
parameter sheet.
Ambient conditions for the storage of the powder (temperature, atmospheric
humidity), see Storage of the powder.
