Positioning parts
Shrinkage and distortion of the parts can be reduced by the optimum positioning of
the parts. The following recommendations should be followed:
➢ The parts should be positioned in the middle of the building area as far as
possible.
The closer the parts are positioned to the edge of the building area, the greater
the risk that parts could be torn out or that parts could be deformed.
➢ The distance between the parts should be at least 5 mm.
➢ The parts should be positioned in the Z direction at a start position of at least
6 mm.
➢ The building temperature is measured in the building temperature measuring
area using a spot pyrometer. Parts must not be positioned there.
➢ The parts should be positioned and sorted in the same place in the building area
from job to job to achieve part accuracies as reproducible as possible.
At least 6 mm of powder should be recoated as blank layers (without parts) so
that curling and distortion of the parts is prevented.
