Refreshing the powder
After sieving, the sieved used powder (recycled powder) must be refreshed with new
plastic powder prior to usage for a new building process.
The refresh factor is dependent on the following factors:
➢ Duration of the action of heat on the powder:
The plastic powder is damaged more during a long building time.
➢ Level to which the job is filled with parts:
The more densely a job is filled with parts, the greater the energy applied by the
laser, due to the greater exposure volume. As a consequence the temperature in
the exchangeable frame increases and the plastic powder is damaged more.
Mixing the powder
Mixing the plastic powder may cause electrostatic charging. The plastic powder can
therefore not be used for the building process immediately, instead it must be stored
in powder bins after mixing:
➢ So that an air change is ensured
➢ So that the powder is protected against soiling.
The ideal application-specific refresh factor must be determined in the specific
case.
For the minimum refresh factors see the parameter sheet.
Ambient conditions for the storage of the powder (temperature, atmospheric
humidity), see Storage of the powder.
