Configuring IP
December 2000 15 - 13
Origination of
default routes
You can enable a router to originate default routes for
the following route exchange protocols, on an
individual protocol basis:
RIP
OSPF
BGP4
Disabled 16-10
17-34
19-32
Default route
aggregation
Optimizes forwarding cache space by aggregating
cache entries for destinations to which the router
forwards traffic using a default route. When you
enable default route aggregation, the router makes a
single cache entry for a destination network instead of
multiple entries for the hosts on the network.
Separate cache entry
for each destination
host

Default network
route
The router uses the default network route if the IP
route table does not contain a route to the destination
and also does not contain an explicit default route
(0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 or 0.0.0.0/0).
None configured 15-49
Static route An IP route you place in the IP route table. No entries 15-39
Source interface The IP address the router uses as the source address
for Telnet, RADIUS, or TACACS/TACACS+ packets
originated by the router. The router can select the
source address based on either of the following:
The lowest-numbered IP address on the
interface the packet is sent on.
The lowest-numbered IP address on a specific
interface. The address is used as the source for
all packets of the specified type regardless of
interface the packet is sent on.
The lowest-numbered
IP address on the
interface the packet is
sent on.
