4.1Generalinformationonsetup
Thetasksdescribedinthischapterareintendedtobe
performedbytrainedandauthorizedservicetechnicians
forinitialsetup.Theyarenotintendedtobeperformed
bytheuser.
4.2BatterySynchronisationonNew
Batteries
TheLiNXenhancedbatterygaugeintegratesnew
technologythatdeterminestheStateofCharge(SOC)
oflead-acidbatteriesmoreaccuratelythanconventional
batterygaugeswhicharebasedonbattery-terminal
voltage.
•ThenewenhancedgaugeestimatestherealSOCby
lookingatanumberoffactors,notjustinstantaneous
terminalvoltage,whichonitsown,isapoorindicator
ofSOC.
•Thegaugedoesnotmeasurecurrent,whichisdifcult
todoinapowerwheelchairsystem.
•Thegaugedeterminesifthebatteryischargingor
discharging,anddependingonthisstate,applieslogic
andcalculationstondtherealSOC.Partofthisis
knowingtherecenthistoryofthebatteryuse.
•Thegaugemodelsthedischargebasedontheterminal
voltage,therateofchangeofterminalvoltageand
howlongthebatteryhasbeeninthisstate,toget
anactualSOC.
•Thenewgaugedifferentiatesbetweenrealcharging
andregeneratedvoltageorrecovery,whichcauses
adistortionofthechargeestimateinconventional
gauges.
•Ifthebatteryisactuallycharging,thechangeinSOC
iscalculatedbasedonwhereitisinthechargecycle,
therateofchangeintheterminalandhowlongit
hasbeencharging.
NewBatteries
Theenhancedbatterygaugeusestherecentcharge/
dischargehistoryofthebatterytocalculatetheSOC.
Whennewbatteriesareconnected,thishistoryisno
longerapplicable,butthegaugewillcontinuetocalculate
theSOCbasedontheinformationfrompreviousbattery.
Torectifythis,theenhancedbatterygaugeneedstobe
synchronisedtothenewbatteries.
Batterymanufacturersrecommendthatbatteries
areformattedwhennew.Thisinvolvescycling
thebatteryanumberoftimeswithoutdeep
dischargingthem.Thisproceduredoesnoteimpact
onthegaugesynchronisationfornewbatteries.
SynchronizingnewBatteries
1.Connectnewbatteriestopowerwheelchair .
2.ResetbatterystatisticsusingLiNXAccesstools,see
ResettingBatteryUsage,page143
.
3.Connectpowerwheelchairtobatterycharger .This
mustbedonewithsystemswitchedONorwithin24
hoursofsystembeingswitchedon.
4.Leavepowerwheelchairconnectedtobatterycharger
forlongerthantenminutes.
5.Waituntilbatterygaugedisplaysmorethan80%
(5LEDs).
6.Leavepowerwheelchairconnectedtobatterycharger
foratleasttwohours.Foranewbattery,the
timeshouldbeanextendedperiodasperbattery
manufacturer’srecommendations.
4.3ReplacingPowerModuleasSpare

latestversionsallowyourusertousethenewestfeatures
andotherimprovementsInvacareintroducedforthe
wheelchair.Currentlytherearetwodifferentwaysto
ensurethatyoursystemisup-to-date:
