Query :BORDer? Query byte order
Short-form format: :form:bord?
Response message: NORM or SWAP
This command is used to control the byte order for the IEEE754 binary formats. For normal byte
order, the data format for each element is sent as follows:
Byte 1 Byte 2 Byte 3 Byte 4 (Single precision)
Byte 1 Byte 2 ••• Byte 8 (Double precision)
For reverse byte order, the data format for each element is sent as follows:
Byte 4 Byte 3 Byte 2 Byte 1 (Single precision)
Byte 8 Byte 7 ••• Byte 1 (Double precision)
The “#,0” Header is not affected by this command. The Header is always sent at the beginning
of the data string for each measurement conversion.
The ASCII data format can only be sent in the normal byte order. The SWAPped selection is sim-
ply ignored when the ASCII format is selected.
Programming example 10 OUTPUT 716; “:form:bord swap; bord?”
20 ENTER 716; A$
30 PRINT A$
40 END
Line 10 Two commands in this program message; the first reverses the binary byte order, and
the second queries the byte order.
Line 20 Addresses the Model 2001 to talk.
Line 30 Displays the byte order (SWAP).
