4. Fire Bottle
A. Hydrostatic Testing Of Fire Bottle
NOTE:
Hydrostatic testing of pressure cylinders
used in aircraft is a U.S. Department of
Transportation requirement.
If a pressure cylinder hydrostatic test is
not due during a scheduled inspection, it
can be hydrostatic tested after its due
date at the next scheduled inspection.
Cylinders which have reached their hy
drostatic test due date cannot be re
charged or installed until hydrostatically
tested.
(1). Return fire bottles with out dated
hydrostatic service life to Mass Sys
tems, Inc. or an approved service-re
pair facility.
B. Weight Verification Of Fire Bottle
(1). Remove fire bottle.
NOTE: Fire bottles must have weight verifica
tion with discharge cartridges removed.

(2). Remove discharge cartridges from fire
bottle with shunt plug covers installed.
NOTE: Weight verification must be on a scale
with an accuracy of plus/minus 0.16 oz (4.54
g).
(3). Weight shall not vary from marked
weight of last weighing by more than
1.6 oz (45.36 g).
(4). Return fire bottles with more than
allowed weight difference to an ap
proved service-repair facility.
(5). Install discharge cartridges into fire
bottle.
(6). Install fire bottle.

A. Shipment of Charged Fire Bottles
NOTE: A fire bottle that is past the hydrostatic
test due date, can be transported or shipped
in the charged condition if it was filled be
fore the hydrostatic test due date.
Pressurized fire bottles are clas
sified as an ``EXPLOSIVE MA
TERIAL” and must be identified as such to
the transportation carrier.
Any charged fire bottle that is being returned
to the manufacturer or a service repair facility
must:
(1). Have discharge outlets and cartridges
installed. If outlet and cartridge are not
available, the outlet ports must be
protected with special safetied metal
caps.
(2). Be shunted with a conductive shunt
plug cover (T1006) or wire across
exposed terminal shorted to discharge
cartridge connector case.
(3). Be packed properly in a suitable
container. The container markings and
shipping documents must comply with
the requirements of the Department of
Transportation (DOT).
(4). Have the specific DOT exemption
Number on the container and shipping
documents. The exemption Number is
stamped or engraved on the fire bottle
mounting lugs.
B. Shipment of Discharge Cartridge
Discharge cartridges are classi
fied as an ``EXPLOSIVE MA
TERIAL” and must be identified as such to
the transportation carrier.
Any discharge cartridge that is being returned
to the manufacturer or a service repair facility
must:
