CARGO HOOK SYSTEM
INSPECTION / TEST
1. Cargo Hook System Inspections
A. General Inspection
(1). Examine the connections between the
cargo hook sling and the rotorcraft.
(a). Examine hardware for damage or
indications of possible fatigue.
(b). No scoring or play is permitted on
this attached hardware.
(2). Examine cable sling assembly for
fraying, wear, or other damage.
(a). No indication of damage permitted.
(3). Examine electrical release, and load
indication wire harness and connectors
for general condition and security.
(4). Examine mechanical release cable
housing for nicks, cuts, kinks, or
general damage that can decrease or
prevent movement of cable within
housing.
(a). Damage that decreases or prevents
movement is not permitted.
(5). Examine mechanical release connector
for general condition and security.
(6). Examine hook for cracks, corrosion, and
overall general condition. No damage
permitted.
(7). Examine hook for security and function
of mechanism.
(a). Make sure the release action fully
retracts when activated under
various load and attitude conditions.
B. Cargo Hook Inspection
(1). Examine cargo hook for dirt, grit, or
foreign objects that can bind or cause
incorrect operation.
(2). Examine cargo hook for scratches to the
surface finish.
(a). If there are scratches that go through
the protective finish layer and into
the base material, replace the cargo
hook.
(3). Examine the surface and the compo
nents of the cargo hook for oil.
(a). If there is oil, clean the cargo hook
and its components.
(4). Examine the cargo hook of pitting or
corrosion.
(a). No pitting or corrosion permitted.
(5). Examine the cargo hook for too much
grease.
(a). Grease that has overflowed onto
components that are not to be
lubricated is not permitted.
(6). Examine attached hardware for correct
installation.
(a). Make sure fasteners and nuts are not
stripped or damaged.
