Connecting an Expansion Rack to Oracle SuperCluster T5-8
Note - For instructions on connecting an Oracle Exadata Storage Expansion Half Rack or
Oracle Exadata Storage Expansion Full Rack to Oracle SuperCluster T5-8, see “Connecting an
Oracle Exadata Storage Expansion Half Rack or Oracle Exadata Storage Expansion Full Rack
to Oracle SuperCluster T5-8” on page 320.
Note the following restrictions when connecting an Oracle Exadata Storage Expansion Quarter
Rack to Oracle SuperCluster T5-8:

The standard version of the Oracle Exadata Storage Expansion Quarter Rack contains two
leaf switches and no spine switch. You will typically make two connections for each leaf
switch in the Oracle Exadata Storage Expansion Quarter Rack to the leaf switches in the
Oracle SuperCluster T5-8. Each leaf switch in the Oracle SuperCluster T5-8 must therefore
have four open ports for this type of connection.

In the Half Rack version of Oracle SuperCluster T5-8, four ports are open on both leaf
switches (ports 2A, 2B, 7B and 12A). Use the instructions in this section to make the two
connections between each leaf switch in the Oracle Exadata Storage Expansion Quarter
Rack to the leaf switches in the Oracle SuperCluster T5-8.

In the Full Rack version of Oracle SuperCluster T5-8, only two ports are open on both leaf
switches (ports 2A and 2B). Therefore, if you are connecting an Oracle Exadata Storage
Expansion Quarter Rack to the Full Rack version of Oracle SuperCluster T5-8, you must
order a spine switch kit from Oracle and install that spine switch in the Oracle Exadata
Storage Expansion Quarter Rack. You would then connect the Oracle Exadata Storage
Expansion Quarter Rack to Oracle SuperCluster T5-8 using the instructions given in
“Connecting an Oracle Exadata Storage Expansion Half Rack or Oracle Exadata Storage
Expansion Full Rack to Oracle SuperCluster T5-8” on page 320.

Only one Oracle Exadata Storage Expansion Quarter Rack can be connected to the Half
Rack version of Oracle SuperCluster T5-8.
The following graphic shows the cable connections from an Oracle Exadata Storage Expansion
Quarter Rack to the Half Rack version of Oracle SuperCluster T5-8. The leaf switches within
each rack maintain their existing seven connections. The leaf switches interconnect between the
racks with two links each using the ports reserved for external connectivity.
