14.3.4 Nebulization of Medication
When using a N2269 nebulizer kit with the N5188 patient circuit. The N2269
nebulizer requires an additional flow of gas which alters the prescribed set PIP
and PEEP levels.
Physical insertion of the N2269 nebulizer kit into the N5188 patient circuit.
Disconnect the inspiratory limb (A) with amber restrictor from the ET manifold (B).
Insert the clear connector (C) of the N2269 kit into the ET manifold (B) and
reconnect the inspiratory limb (D) to the free end of the nebulizer (E).
Connect the free end of the nebulizer supply tube (F) to a flow meter.
Operational Changes
When using the SLE4000/5000 with a nebulizer, the ventilator should be used as
time cycled pressure limited device by removal of the flow sensor. Removing the
flow sensor from the ET manifold whilst still connected to the ventilator is not
advised as the “Breath not detected” alarm will become active and mask other
alarm conditions that could arise.
When nebulization of the fluid is complete the flow sensor should be recalibrated
and inserted back into the circuit.
Warning: When using flows for nebulizing of 8 lpm or greater, this will cause
the PEEP and PIP pressures to rise by approximately 4 and 6 mbar
respectively.
