page 94.
9.2 Setup Related Items
9.2.1 Shutting Down of the Ventilator
The ventilator contains a battery back-up power supply that will continue to
operate the ventilator in the event of a power failure. The batteries take over
automatically when a power failure is experienced. The batteries also
automatically take over when the ventilator is switched Off at the rear as a safety
feature. To turn the ventilator Off when no longer required the user is required to
cut off the battery power by pressing the battery power disconnect button located
on the other side of the power cable.
9.2.2 Back-up Battery Charging
Prior to use, the back-up batteries should be charged to allow the maximum
amount of ventilation time on backup power in the event of a mains power failure.
The ventilator should be connected to a suitable power supply, air and oxygen
gas supplies and left in Ventilation Off mode for a minimum of 24 hours.
In Ventilation Off mode set the Fi0
2
parameter to 21% to avoid using oxygen.
The ventilator can be left in Ventilation Off mode with no gas supplies connected,
but the user must be aware that the muted "No gas" alarm will sound continuously
during this period.
