16. Basic Set-up
Warning: The ventilator must not be connected to the patient
during this set-up procedure.
Warning: The user should never enter Ventilation Off mode when
connected to a patient. The ventilator does not ventilate in this
mode.
Note: The basic set-up routines described in this chapter are
only to allow the user (i.e. clinician / medical staff) to enter each
mode in a safe manner. It is the responsibility of the user to set
safe ventilation parameters. The ventilation parameters stated in
this chapter are used only to guide the user, if the user deems
these parameters unsuitable for the patient then appropriate
parameters should be selected. The parameters stated in this
chapter should never override the user choice of ventilator
settings.
Note: Only SLE approved circuits should be used with this
ventilator.
16.1 Pre Set-up Checks
Check that the humidifier is turned on. (Refer to the manufactures instructions for
more details).
Check that the humidification chamber is filled with appropriate sterile H
2
O to the
designated level.
Check that the patient circuit heating connector is connected to the humidifier and
is secure. (Refer to the manufactures instructions for more details).
Check the patient circuit, make sure all the connections are secure and that the
water trap is empty and upright.
Check that the humidifier temperature probes are correctly inserted into the
patient circuit monitoring ports.
For the setup procedure a test lung needs to be fitted to the patient circuit.
Check that the ventilator has been functionally tested according to the Quick
setup guide on page 84.
