Anin-tankfuelheaterisalsoavailable.In-tankheatersusehotenginecoolantto
warmthefuel.Thispreventswaxformationinthefuelduringcoldseasonoperation.
Theseheatersarethermostaticallycontrolledandwillautomaticallyraisethefuel
temperaturetoanoptimumlevel.
Winterfront
VolvoTrucksNorthAmericadoesnotrecommendtheuseofwinterfronts,
shuttersoranyothershieldinfrontofthegrilleorradiatorpackageunder
normalcircumstances.
Today’selectronicallycontrolledenginesaredesignedtooperateincoldtemperatures
withoutawinterfront.Thesedevices,ifnotusedproperly,cancausehigherexhaust
temperatures,powerloss,excessivefanusage,failureofthecharge-air-cooleranda
reductioninfueleconomy.
Winterfrontsareproperlyusedinthewintertimeduringverycoldweather.Inthese
cases,coolantandinletmanifoldtemperaturesmustalsobecarefullymonitoredand
controlled.
CAUTION
Failuretoremovethewinterfront
whentemperaturesgoaboveseverely
coldtemperaturescouldcausesevere
damagetoengine,charge-air-cooler
and/orlossoffueleconomy.
Ifawinterfrontisused,itmustconformtothesespecications:
•Thegrillecoverageshouldbesuchthatairowthroughtothecharge-air-cooleris
atauniformrateovertheentirearea.Thismeansthatasingle,smallopeningin
thewinterfrontisnotacceptable.
•Airpassagemustbedistributedevenlyacrossthegrilleandnomorethan85%
canbecovered.
