WhenhandlingDEFsolution,itisimportantthatelectricalconnectorstobeconnected
orwellencapsulated,otherwisethereisariskthattheDEFwillcauseoxidationthat
cannotberemoved.Waterorcompressedairdonothelp,sinceDEFquicklyoxidizes
certainmetal.IfadisconnectedconnectorcomesintocontactwiththeDEFsolutionit
mustbereplacedimmediatelytopreventtheDEFsolutionfromcreepingfurtherinto
thecopperwiring,whichtakesplaceataspeedofabout60mm(2.4in)perhour.
CAUTION
Whendetachinghosesandcomponents,
donotspillDEFondisconnected
orunsealedconnectors.IfDEFis
spilledonadisconnectedorunsealed
connector,theconnectormustbe
replacedimmediately.
ThingstoknowaboutspilledDieselExhaustFluid(DEF)
IfDEFsolutioncomesintocontactwiththeskin:rinsewithplentyofwaterand
removecontaminatedclothing.
IfDEFsolutioncomesintocontactwiththeeyes:rinseforseveralminutesandcall
formedicalhelpifnecessary.
Ifinhaled:breathefreshairandcallformedicalhelpifnecessary.
DonotallowtheDEFsolutiontocomeintocontactwithotherchemicals.
TheDEFsolutionisnotammable.IftheDEFsolutionisexposedtohigh
temperatures,itbreaksdownintoammoniaandcarbondioxide.
TheDEFsolutionishighlycorrosivetocertainmetals,includingcopperandbrass.
IftheDEFsolutionisspilledontothevehicle,wipeofftheexcessandrinsewith
water.SpilledDEFsolutioncanformconcentratedwhitecrystalsonthevehicle.
Rinseoffthesecrystalswithwater.
Note:DonotushDEFspillageintothe
normaldrainsystem.
