Installer manual AlphaVision ML Rev. 3.60 01-01-2015 28
PSTN expansion
The Alpha Vision ML is equipped with an integrated IP
dialer for alarm reporting to a central station. If the end-
user would like to report alarms to a personal (mobile)
phone number then the control panel must be
extended with a PSTN or GSM dialer. The PSTN dialer is
a plug-on board and can be mounted directly to the
main board of the control panel. The PSTN dialer is
equipped with a priority circuit that ensures that the
incoming PSTN line is always available for alarm
reporting. The incoming phone line is connected to the
LINE connection of the PSTN dialer, all phones in the
premises are connected to the SET connection of the
PSTN dialer.
The AlphaVision ML has a PSTN line monitoring option. The voltage of the analog telephone line is
monitored every 3 seconds. If the line voltage drops below 3 VDC an 'Information present' message will
appear after 10 seconds and the Information (i) LED will flash. The line monitoring option can be found in
the programming under Installer menu / Dialer / PSTN/GSM / Misc. options / Monitor Tel.line.
The PSTN plug-on board features a white 3-pin connector to which the MLV (audio amplifier) can be
connected. The MLV service module is a piece of equipment that allows to listen to the PSTN alarm
reporting.
The PSTN plug-on board is connected to the Alpha Vision ML main board using the 2 red connectors. Ensure
that the supplied double-sided foam is used to fixate the PSTN plug-on board to the main board. When
replacing or disconnecting the PSTN plug-on board ensure that the plug-on board is fixated with a new piece
of dubble-sided foam.
GSM/GPRS expansion
For the AlphaVision ML a GSM/GPRS module is also
available. The GSM/GPRS module is delivered as a plug-
on board that can be mounted directly to the main
board of the AlphaVision ML.
Using the GSM/GPRS module, alarms can be reported
via GSM or via GPRS, but not both. When reporting via
GSM this can either be to a monitoring station
(protocol: Contact ID, SIA Level-2, XSIA) or to private
(mobile) phones (protocols: siren, text message or voice
message if an optional speech plug-on board is
installed).
For alarm transmission via GSM the GSM/GPRS module
must be equipped with a SIM card. It is strongly advised not to use Prepaid cards as the AlphaVision ML
cannot detect that the calling credit has expired.
The GSM signal strength is displayed on the top line of the LCD display on the far right hand side. The
strength is indicated with a value between 1 and 9, where 9 is optimal and 1 is very poor. If the signal
strength is below 5 we advise to move the GSM antenna or use an outdoor GSM antenna.
The GSM/GPRS module can also serve as a GSM backup dialer for the PSTN dialer.
It is also possible to use the GSM/GPRS module for GPRS transmission to a monitoring station (protocol:
SIA-HS IP). For GPRS reception the monitoring station must have a RC-4001 receiver equipped with a
RC-4001 IP receiver card. The GSM/GPRS module must be equipped with a SIM card supporting GPRS data.
