Installer manual AlphaVision ML Rev. 3.60 01-01-2015 33
The current consumption of the detectors can be found in the manual of the manufacturer. For the most
common Visonic and Siemens detectors the power consumption (at a 12VDC nominal voltage) is as follows:
AlphaVision Input module + 8 OC outputs
The AlphaVision Input + 8 o.c. module is powered through the RS-485 bus of the control panel and besides
the power consumption of the connected detectors, it has its own power consumption of 58mA. The
module is also equipped with 8 o.c. outputs for connecting LEDs or external devices. For each LED output an
extra power consumption of 10mA must be added to the total power consumption. If eight LEDs are
connected the total power consumption is 138mA. When using the recommended cable (art.nr. 008653),
this is equivalent to a voltage drop of 1.38 V per 100m. On the module in the worst case situation (no mains
supply and minimum battery voltage) the incoming voltage must not be below 8V. The maximum length
between the power supply and the input module, based on a voltage drop of 2V and eight LEDs connected
and activated is approximately 145m. If no outputs are connected and 6 DISCOVERY detectors (17mA) and 2
magnetic contacts (no power consumption thus 0mA) are connected to the inputs, then the total power
consumption (6 x 17mA + 58mA) is 160mA. This can be translated into a maximum distance of about 125m.
The Input + 8 o.c. module may not be used in EN50131 compliant installations. For alternative, see
comments in guidelines for grade 2 (page 11). The AlphaVision I/O module (with own power supply and
back-up battery) may be used and is the recommended alternative.
AlphaVision I/O module
The AlphaVision I/O module, like the control panel has its own power supply. The I/O module is equipped
with a 3A @ 12VDC switching power supply. The maximum power supply includes the internal power
consumption for the battery charging circuit and the internal power consumption of the board (74mA). The
battery is charged through a fixed stabilized voltage. The charging current has a maximum value of
approximately 500mA (for 7Ah lead acid batteries). The I/O module has an automatic battery test which is
performed in two ways. For information about automatic battery testing and mains failure, see chapter
'battery test and mains failure’.
The I/O module can be placed at a bigger distance (1200m) from the control panel, provided the
installations is installed according to the wiring requirements. The I/O module is also designed to provide
power supply to Input modules and keypads connected behind the I/O module. The maximum RS-485 bus
may not exceed 1200m.
PSTN plug-on dialer
The AlphaVision ML can be extended with a PSTN plug-on dialer that is powered directly from the main
board. The power consumption of the PSTN dialer is approx. 10mA.
