Chapter 2 Catalyst 3750 Metro Switch Cisco IOS Commands
random-detect dscp
random-detect dscp
Use the random-detect dscp policy-map class configuration command to configure Differentiated
Services Code Point (DSCP)-based Weighted Random Early Detection (WRED) settings in a
hierarchical policy map attached to an enhanced-services (ES) port. Use the no form of this command
to return to the default settings.
random-detect dscp dscp min-threshold max-threshold mark-prob-denominator
no random detect dscp dscp
Syntax Description
Defaults If WRED is using the DSCP value to calculate the drop probability of a packet, all entries of the DSCP
table are initialized with the default settings listed in
Table 2-15 on page 2-380. The min-threshold
default is 64 packets, and the max-threshold default is 128 packets.

Specify WRED settings, such as packet-threshold and mark-probability
values, for a DSCP value. Specify these options:
dscp—DSCP value. The range is 0 to 63. You also can enter a
mnemonic name for a commonly used value. For more information,
see the “Usage Guidelines” section.
min-threshold—the minimum threshold in packets. The range is 1 to
32768. When the average queue size reaches the minimum threshold,
WRED randomly drops some packets with the specified DSCP value.
max-threshold—the maximum threshold in packets. The range is 1 to
32768. When the average queue size exceeds the maximum threshold,
WRED drops all packets with the specified DSCP value.
mark-prob-denominator—the denominator for the fraction of packets
dropped when the average queue size is at the maximum threshold.
The range is 1 to 65535. For example, if the denominator is 512, one
out of every 512 packets is dropped when the queue is at the maximum
threshold. The packet-drop probability is based on the minimum
threshold, the maximum threshold, and the mark-probability
denominator. The default is 10; 1 out of every 10 packets is dropped
at the maximum threshold.
Release Modification
12.1(14)AX This command was introduced.
12.2(25)EY Hierarchical service policies can be attached to inbound traffic received on
