4.3 Connecting RF generator interlock to
system
The connection of the interlock to the customer’s system depends on the chosen hardware
configuration and the corresponding interfaces available on the back of the generator.
The following figure shows the interfaces on the back of a generator configured with the
standard M8 Interlock connector and an optional 15-pin D-Sub Userport connector.
Further optional user ports are possible, e. g. with 25-pin or 37-pin D-Sub connector.
The example shown below is a RF generator equipped with a standard M8 Interlock
connector and an optional 15-pin D-Sub Userport connector.

In order to enable RF power operation, handle the Interlock signals on every
relevant connector. For the pin assignment of the Userport, see chapter
9
“Interface specifications” on page 75.
The Interlock signals on every relevant connector should be handled in such a way
that the relevant pins are connected in normal operation and disconnected in case
of danger. This ensures that RF power operation is disabled under all
circumstances as soon as the interlock chain is interrupted.
If the Interlock signals on a relevant connector are not handled by the customer’s
system, bridge the corresponding pins.
WARNING
Defeating the interlock function can result in dangerous situations
if the generator is allowed to supply power into the customer's
system with inadequate safety precautions.
