4.4.4.2 RSTP Aggregated Port Settings
Click the option RSTP Aggregated Port Settings from the Rapid Spanning Tree menu and then
the following screen page appears.
State: Enable or disable configured trunking groups in RSTP mode.
Cost: This parameter is used by the RSTP to determine the best path between devices. Therefore,
lower values should be assigned to ports attached to faster media, and higher values assigned to
ports with slower media. 0 means auto-generated path cost.
Priority: Choose a value between 0 and 240 to set the priority for the port interface. A higher
priority will designate the interface to forward packets first. A lower number denotes a higher
priority.
Edge: If you know a port is directly connected to an end device (that doesn't support RSTP) then
set it as an edge port to ensure maximum performance. This will tell the switch to immediately
start forwarding traffic on the port and not bother trying to establish a RSTP connection. Otherwise,
turn it off.
Point to Point: “Forced True” parameter indicates a point-to-point (P2P) shared link. P2P ports
are similar to edge ports; however, they are restricted in that a P2P port must operate in full duplex.
Similar to edge ports, P2P ports transit to a forwarding state rapidly thus benefiting from RSTP.
“Forced False” indicates that the port cannot have P2P status.
“Auto” allows the port to have P2P status whenever possible and operates as if the P2P status
were true. If the port cannot maintain this status, (for example if the port is forced to half-duplex
operation) the P2P status changes to operate as if the P2P value were false. The default setting
for this parameter is true.
